I feel immensely proud to welcome you to St Aidan’s Catholic Academy, a school within the Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust.
Our school has a rich history and like all Catholic schools we provide a nurturing, caring and loving environment where spirituality and Catholic ethos and faith permeate everything we do.

As a Catholic school we are proud to worship, and follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. At St Aidan’s you will ‘witness’ our underpinning Catholic ethos in all that you experience – the way we talk to one another, the way we support and trust each other and the way we are driven to succeed in our mission.
Transition from primary to secondary school is a very exciting time, but I also recognise that it is a challenging time for any child, parents or carers, especially in these unprecedented circumstances.
My promise to you is that St Aidan’s Catholic Academy will always offer a safe place for boys to take chances, express their emotions and discover and thrive in all subjects. Staff are committed to ensuring you and your families feel loved, comfortable, secure and welcome as part of our school community.

Mr Sanderson
Pupils enjoy using the Gym as part of their PE lessons and enrichment.
Family dining is an integral part of our day givings pupils the opportunity to eat a healthy meal whilst chatting to friends and staff. Family dining removes the need for queues and allows for a calm and purposeful dining environment.
We never give up. We remain positive so that we have the strength to persevere with even the hardest work. We do whatever it takes for as long as it takes.
Trust
We are honest. We do what we say we will do and do not make excuses. We are loyal and have the courage to do the right thing.
Fairness
We play by the rules. We are respectful, polite and courteous at all times. We don’t take advantage of others and helping a member of our community is helping ourselves.
From the moment a student arrives at St Aidan’s, we ask them to live these values
Art is studied in Year 7, 8 and 9 and can be taken as an option at GCSE and A Level. We offer a range of skill including glass and clay work. We also run a number of Art enrichment activities including visits and trips.
The image of a mountain is something that we use repeatedly. Each day we believe, we all face our own Everest, a challenge that we find difficult, something that is not easy to overcome – at these times it can be easy for us to give up and look for an easier path. At our school we constantly challenge students to take on the mountain whilst always remembering the top of one mountain is simply the base of another… We don’t just ‘talk the talk’ but we ask everyone to ‘walk the walk’ and to live the culture.

Science
At St Aidan’s we believe that Science has something to offer every student and suits students of all abilities and aspirations. Our ambition is to develop students’ experience and knowledge of Science from Primary school and to equip them with the scientific skills required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future. Children are naturally curious and we encourage this inquisitive nature throughout their time with us and beyond. In order to achieve this, the curriculum is broad and balanced and Science is contextualised
We offer a wide range of sport through the day to day curriculum and the wider curriculum through enrichment. We also have many teams that you can be part of.
St Aidan's currently holds a 'Silver'award for the Great Active Sunderland Schools Charter.
We also use the facilities at Ashbrooke Cricket Club on a daily basis
